Policy on Hazing

The Policy on Hazing is an adaptation of the previous statement on hazing, intended to provide clarity for students and those who work with students on what constitute hazing under the State of Texas laws and what constitutes hazing for Baylor University.

Notable features of the policy include:

• A stated commitment to student safety and wellbeing, situated within our broader university commitment to learning, worldwide leadership and service.

• Awareness that violations of the Texas Education Code related to hazing can result in criminal prosecution

• Baylor’s definition of hazing is inclusive of the State of Texas definition and also includes broader understanding of behaviors we believe constitute hazing – intentional, knowing or reckless acts that may endanger or adversely affect the mental or physical health or dignity or safety of a student.
