Staff Performance Appraisal and Planning Process Policy

September 16, 2021

The Staff Performance Appraisal and Planning Process Policy (BU-PP 804) establishes an annual performance evaluation as a part of ongoing performance management to provide performance feedback to employees, inform the merit process, and provide information that may influence salary decisions, promotions, and transfers. This policy updates the University’s previous Staff Performance Appraisal and Planning Process Policy which was issued March 31, 2015.

Overview of Revised Policy
This policy was revised to reflect the current processes and intentions for the staff performance appraisal process. This includes:

• Removing steps, systems, and processes which have become either outdated or are no longer used.
• Explicitly defining who is required, who is optional, and who is excluded from completing a staff performance appraisal.
• Simplifying to provide guidance, while removing overly prescriptive items that may change over time. For example, no mention is made of the specific system in which appraisals are conducted or the exact dates the process runs each year. This allows for flexibility and unforeseen changes while still establishing a process that is consistent overall.
