Staff Disciplinary Actions Policy

March 16, 2026

The Staff Disciplinary Actions Policy  requires employees to follow University policies and to meet performance and behavioral expectations. Supervisors are required to hold employees accountable for performance and behavior in the workplace. When performance and/or behavior fails to meet expectations, disciplinary action should be both positive and corrective in nature.

Overview of Revised Policy:

  • Updates and clarifies roles and responsibilities for the disciplinary actions process.
  • Language has been updated with current procedures that allow for warnings to last 30-90 days.
  • A new bullet point has been added stating that managers must notify HR at least one week before presenting an employee with the next stage of the PIP or confirming successful completion of the PIP.
  • Language has been added that provides more details and clarity on the difference between a reprimand versus a performance improvement plan.
  • The “Planning the Corrective Action Meeting” section has been removed, with a recommendation that managers refer to existing manager resources for the best practices previously outlined in this section, in support of consolidating the policy.
