Policy on Misconduct in Research

The Policy on Misconduct in Research establishes the University’s compliance with federal regulations concerning the requirement to have and maintain written policies and procedures for addressing allegations of research misconduct (42 CFR 93.300; 45 CFR 689.4; etc.)

Overview of Revised Policy:

  • The policy was updated to reflect newly revised federal regulation (45 CFR 93).
  • The was was updated to highlight the relevant policies related to research misconduct and to remove administrative procedures.
  • The policy was updated to include the expected standard of conduct at a preeminent Christian research university and the Baylor community’s affirmative duties to report potential research misconduct and to cooperate with research misconduct proceedings.
  • The policy was updated to:
    • Include numerous regulatory definitions.
    • Clarify the authority of the Research Integrity Officer.
    • Clarify standards for confidentiality and retaliation.
    • Add discretionary jurisdiction over research-related misconduct that does not fall under any other policy at the university but requires processes to appropriately address.
