Code of Ethics and Personal Conduct Policy

The Code of Ethics and Personal Conduct Policy establishes the University’s ethical principles and guidelines on expected behavior in the workplace.

Overview of Revised Policy:

  • The policy was updated to combine the Code of Ethics Policy (BU-PP 024) with the Standards of Personal Conduct Policy (BU-PP 023).
  • The principles under “Personal Conduct” were further clarified by including the expectation to understand and follow performance standards and laws and regulations.
  • The policy was updated to include language on consequences for not complying with ethical principles, expected behaviors, and performance standards.
  • The policy was updated to include references to related policies.
  • The language in the “Participation in Politics” section was clarified by incorporating modern modes of participation and further explaining that external activities should not discredit the University.
  • The policy’s “Dress Code” section was changed to “Professional Image”. It was also updated to be gender neutral, reference new Texas legislation, and provide direction for those that need a medical accommodation to the dress code.
  • The policy was updated to include explaining the reason for the policy.
  • The policy was updated to include what individuals are affected by the policy.
  • The related policies were expanded to include the addition of the Faculty Dismissal and Student Conduct policy links.
