Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and Department of Labor (DOL) regulations require that the University classify graduate students based on the duties and responsibilities assigned to those students.

The policy brings our classifications of graduate assistants into compliance with IRS and DOL regulations and guidance.

Classifications are available based on the type of research or teaching activities graduate students are assigned and whether those activities indicate the student is exempt from overtime rules.
