Animals on Campus Policy
The updated Animals on Campus Policy standardizes the University’s position on the management of animals on University-controlled property.
This policy discusses animals on campus and incorporates services animals, emotional support animals, and research and teaching animals.
Overview of the Policy:
Animals not expressly prohibited under the policy may be brought on University-controlled property subject to the requirements of the policy or related policies or procedures.
Anyone who brings an animal on University-controlled property assumes all financial responsibility for any damages to property or injury to individuals caused by the animal.
The following categories of animals are prohibited from all University-controlled property (inside and outside) at all times:
- Animals with a known history of dangerous or aggressive behavior or demonstrating dangerous or aggressive behavior.
- Any animal not permitted to be kept as a pet under state or local laws or regulations.
- Venomous and Poisonous animals (e.g., amphibians, reptiles, insects, spiders) or constricting snakes (e.g., Boas, Pythons, and Anacondas).
- Any wild or non-domesticated animal.
The policy discusses when the University may facilitate removal of an animal from University-controlled property.
Emotional support animals are not permitted in University-controlled buildings outside of University housing.
